Freestyle World Championships 2025: the Engadin in the spotlight
Two weeks full of action, emotion and international attention cast the Upper Engadin in a new light in March 2025. The Freestyle World Championships, which took place on Corviglia and Corvatsch from March 17 to 30, not only set new sporting standards, but also left a lasting impression on visitors, the media and sports associations. The region impressively demonstrated that it can do more than just traditional winter sports: it can do freestyle - young, dynamic and forward-looking.
A new spirit moves in
The vision was clear from the outset: the Freestyle World Championships were to catapult the Upper Engadin onto the map of international freestyle sport - and they delivered. With over 1,800 athletes from 50 countries and around 800 volunteers - mostly young, committed people from the region - an event was created that is aimed at the next generation and brings a new dynamic to the tourist brands of St. Moritz and the Engadin.
The spirit of the event was palpable: high-level sport, but with a focus on lifestyle, community and the future. This focus not only appealed to the international audience, but also left a lasting impression on the region.
Sporting brilliance and emotion
The potential of the World Championships was already evident in the first week. Although the weather necessitated some changes to the program, "Super Friday" in particular was a sporting highlight: Eight decisions were on the program, three of them with Swiss gold. Within just 84 minutes, three world championship titles went to Switzerland - an unforgettable moment for sports fans and a strong signal for the freestyle movement in Switzerland.
The second week was also characterized by sporting highlights and a continuing increase in public response. The competitions on Corvatsch and Corviglia attracted over 100,000 spectators to the courses, as well as around 15,000 guests in the Festival Village, which provided a great atmosphere, especially on the second weekend with the Big Air finals and concerts.
Conclusion: The Engadin is reinventing itself
The 2025 Freestyle World Championships have not only set new standards in sport. They have breathed fresh energy into the Upper Engadin, inspired a young target group and proved that major events can also work economically and media-wise in the off-season.
The region has established a new identity - as the host of a future-oriented, cosmopolitan sport that combines emotions, lifestyle and performance. The path has been paved: the Upper Engadin is well on the way to becoming one of the leading freestyle hotspots in the Alps.
