The Arctic. What does the future hold for polar bears?
Annemarie Koelliker and Roberto Saibene have visited the Arctic twice. They caught the polar bug in 2014 on Svalbard. On this archipelago, which belongs to Norway, they marveled at the imposing mountain ranges and glaciers plunging into the sea. The main attraction, however, was the numerous polar bears, which they were able to observe up close. Four years later, they set out on an expedition through the Northeast Passage: from Norway through Siberia to Alaska. They were fascinated by the icy landscapes and the rich flora and fauna. During the four-week journey, however, they also witnessed firsthand the dramatic changes caused by global warming. They returned home from the expeditions with many photos and questions: Will the polar bears and the indigenous people, who have lived there for millennia, survive the coming decades?
For Annemarie Kölliker and Roberto Saibene, traveling is more than just a hobby. They have traveled to numerous countries and collected the most beautiful moments: the breathtaking sight of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the contact with the friendly Sherpas in Nepal and the boundless dune landscapes in Namibia are just a few examples.
At home, they processed the images with music and commentary into audio-visual shows.
