Festive concert

Monday, December 28, 26
20:00 h
Sta. Maria Protestant Church

Early music meets jazz, composition meets improvisation, ancient instruments meet unheard-of sounds, the Middle Ages meet world music, portative organ meets sheng, choral music meets tango, classical music meets groove, drone meets virtuosity, sound space meets spatial sound.

About the duo

The two Berlin musicians Gert Anklam and Volker Jaekel blend medieval compositions, contemporary jazz, Argentine tangos by Astor Piazzolla, and their own works into an enchanting dialogue between eras and instruments. At times, Volker Jaekel delves into the depths of the soul with the bass notes of the organ, while Gert Anklam balances playfully and cheekily above him with his baritone saxophone. At times, the two meet in hymnal harmony, at times they drift apart, each going their own way. They make use of the entire church space with its diverse echo and reverberation possibilities.
