Snowkiting in the Engadin

The perfect counterpart to kiting in summer, snowkiting is a fun change from classic skiing and snowboarding. Anyone at home on a piste will learn quickly. To keep the risk of injury to a minimum, it is strongly recommended that novices take a beginners’ course. Your experienced snowkite instructor will introduce you to the specific kites and the safety system used.

Stefan Popprath, the founder of the Snowkite and Kitesurf School Silvaplana, first started instructing on Lake Silvaplana in 1994, at a time when snowkiting was still just developing. “There wasn’t even a proper name for it yet. First, we called it parawing, then we named it kitesailing, which is where the school’s name originated from”, says Stefan.
