The first to conquer the powder covered slopes were freeride skiers, only back in the day that name didn’t exist. Nowadays, off-piste skiing has become a massive trend. For many snowsport enthusiasts, the search for peace and quiet while skinning up through the majestic mountains and the rewarding descent through virgin powder has long since replaced classic piste skiing.
Powder, cliff drops and endless runs. At an altitude of 3303m above sea level, the freerider at Corvatsch is spoilt for choice: couloir or powder runs? Corvatsch offers everything a freerider could possibly desire: steep channels for speed freaks, wide open powder runs for the cruiser, cliff jumps for the wild and crazy. And it doesn’t stop there, you can choose from a large variety of ski tours variety of ski toursstarting from Silvaplana and the Julier Pass.
In the Engadin touring up until the end of April is still possible - many freeriders elsewhere are trudging through spring slush. Due to the high-altitude and many north-facing slopes, there is no shortage of powder, ride until the sun sets!
Don’t forget to carry the proper safety equipment including an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe and make sure you read up on the avalanche report and about the protected wildlife areasat Corvatsch; especially strict rules apply to the forest areas. Heed the barriers and signage on the terrain and read the information panels about the protected areas.
