Due to the safety regulations in force at campsites and the increased demand for domestic travel, sites for motorhomes and buses in the Upper Engadine are particularly rare this year. In order to counteract the associated bottleneck, the municipality of Silvaplana is making additional sites available without further ado.

Parking lots become camping sites

On the parking lot Cristins near the mountain railway Corvatsch in Silvaplana Surlej it will be possible to park mobile homes with own sanitary facilities from June 6th, 2020. The price for one night including electricity and plus visitor's tax is CHF 35 per vehicle. All owners of coaches without sanitary facilities can stay overnight in the car park next to the Silvaplana campsite, also from 6 June. They can also use the infrastructure of the campsite. In order to give spontaneous visitors a chance to sleep, the pitches cannot be reserved in advance. "It is important to us to meet the great demand as best we can and to be able to offer a great holiday experience despite the restrictions. With this unconventional solution we can provide a total of almost 60 additional pitches", says Daniel Bosshard, mayor of Silvaplana. Day pitches are particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts. Countless wind- and kite surfers visit the Silvaplana lake to glide over the turquoise water with the Maloja wind.
