From the end of May to the beginning of October, the thermal south-westerly wind attracts action-hungry water sports enthusiasts to the water from midday onwards. The kitesurfing pioneer in Silvaplana

Did you know that the kitesurfing school in Silvaplana was the first in Switzerland and one of the first in the world? The kitesailing school in the Engadin was opened in 1994. At that time, the sport didn't even have a proper name: "First it was called parawing, then we called it kitesailing. That's why the school is still called that today," the founder once said in an interview.

Wind & weather conditions

In the current wind forecast you can see what wind conditions you will find. Southwest and south are best for kitesurfing. In the north and east, the wind is often gusty and should be treated with caution. Generally speaking, a southerly foehn, a flat pressure distribution and good weather are good conditions for a day of kitesurfing.

Learn to kitesurf

Swiss Kitesurf offers kitesurfing lessons for beginners and advanced riders. The instructors will show you how to perform a water start and glide your first few meters. The kitesurfing instructors will teach you how to maintain altitude, turn, jump, ride strapless, and use a hydrofoil. Kitesurfing lessons for children and teenagers

Children as young as 10 can take a private lesson with Swiss Kitesurfing—no prior experience is necessary.

Classes are held daily and last a maximum of 4 hours. The private children’s class consists of one-on-one instruction with a radio connection to the instructor. The student receives direct guidance and can provide feedback at any time. The child remains in contact with the instructor throughout the entire class and is guided by him or her. The instructor assists with getting on and off the board, as well as with takeoffs, landings, and riding.
